As a podcast dedicated to following Ireland’s Eurovision journey and providing an Irish perspective on the contest, Éirevision stand firmly by RTÉ’s decision regarding the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest.
We fully support RTÉ’s position that Ireland will not participate should Israel be permitted to compete. The ongoing and devastating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the appalling loss of civilian lives, and the targeted killing of journalists are matters that cannot and should not be separated from cultural events such as Eurovision. We share RTÉ’s belief that it would be unconscionable for Ireland to participate under these circumstances. Israel’s continued participation brings the contest into disrepute and undermines the values of peace, inclusivity, and unity on which Eurovision was founded.
Ireland has always strived to be on the right side of history, and we believe RTÉ’s stance reflects that tradition. It would be unconscionable for Ireland to participate under the present circumstances. We also urge the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to make a swift and principled decision on this matter, in order to protect the values that Eurovision is meant to uphold and to provide clarity for all participating broadcasters.
Our podcast has always existed to follow Ireland’s Eurovision story. If Ireland is not to compete, then Éirevision will respectfully cease production in line with that decision.
We are grateful to our listeners for their continued support and understanding, and we remain hopeful that the Eurovision Song Contest can once again become a space where values of peace, inclusivity, and unity are truly upheld.
