Today, March 20th, marks 60 years since Ireland debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest.

On this day in 1965, Ireland took its first step onto the Eurovision Song Contest stage. Butch Moore represented us with Walking the Streets in the Rain, finishing 6th place with 11 points – a solid start for us as we would become the most successful Eurovision nation of all time.
Moore won the National Song Contest with Walking the Streets in the Rain, written by Teresa Conlon, George Prendergast, and Joe Harrigan. The 1965 contest was won by Luxembourg, with Poupée de cire, poupée de son, performed by France Gall.
To mark the occasion, here’s Mickey Joe Harte’s incredible live performance of Walking The Streets In The Rain from our live show in November.
On the night, Mickey Joe shared that Butch Moore was his mother’s favorite singer—making this tribute even more special.
